When you buy your hamster, it is extremely important you buy food for it. My hamsters get the Pets at Home healthy balance hamster muesli. You can also give your hamsters left over veggies. So if you have some plain carrot or something you can put it in your hamster’s food bowl. Whatever you put in for your hamster has to be PLAIN!
If you put sauce on the vegetable it could make them sick. If you see any signs that your hamster is sick, go to your nearest vet immediately.
The fact that you must know which bedding to use for your hamster is very important! Some types of bedding are really dangerous because it can end in death!! Cotton bedding can get tangled around the limbs of the hamster. This could even mean that they start chewing their limbs off!! GROSS!!! Some bedding can make your hamster sick and then die! So just stick with the normal sawdust or paper bedding.
I would not recommend you wash your hamster with water as they are not very keen on it. Simply use a special brush or your fingers to ‘clean’ them. When you bring your hamster home from the pet shop, I suggest you feed it the food it is used to. Make sure your hamster has lots of toys but still enough space for it to run around. Your hamster MUST have a wheel. If you do not have a wheel, your hamster might not get enough exercise. You need to give your hamster fresh bowl of food every day. Give them a fresh bottle of water every one or two days.
There are lots of different toys to choose from! Different hamsters like different things! My hamsters don’t really like chewing on things that much. But your hamster might be different. My hamsters really, really like eating especially Kiwi!! Does your hamster like climbing or chewing or running on the wheel or even eating!?!?
My hamsters have been separated because the were fighting and Kiwi (One of my hamsters…) was bit by Fuzzy! (My other hamster…) Mummy said they were fighting because they were trying to see who was the leader. They don’t like each other any more!
If your hamsters are fighting, you should separate them as soon as possible. If they were in a big cage together, I suggest you buy two smaller cages and sell the big one on e-bay or something. I would not recommend keeping them together because it could get worse! I have two Russian dwarf hamsters.
